Repetative Motion Injuries

Lowell, Massachusetts Workers Compensation Attorneys

When most people think about a work injury, they think about what is called an acute injury. This is the term for something causing an immediate injury. Whether it’d a fall that causes a broken ankle or a car accident that causes a herniated disc, these are things that happen in a matter of seconds.

Repetitive Motion Injuries are different. These are injuries that happen over the course of days, weeks, months, and years. They happen in two scenarios. First, they happen when a job entails doing the same motion all day every day. For example, repetitive motion injuries often happen to people who work on an assembly line. Second, they happen to many people who work in the trades. As workers get older, their joints deteriorate, causing injuries.

What Types of Injuries?

Repetitive motion injuries can strike any part of the body. It all depends on the type of motion that you were doing.

  • Tendonitis: This is inflammation that occurs in the tendons that hold joints together. This often happens in the arm, elbow, and shoulder. It can also happen in the knee. An example of this type of injury is tennis elbow.
  • Bursitis: This is also inflammation, but it happens in the joint itself. It causes pain, tenderness, and reduces the range of motion. It usually occurs in the Knee, Elbow, and Hip
  • Carpal Tunnel Syndrome: This condition happens when the nerve that goes into your hand is compressed as it passes through a small passage in your wrist. It can cause numbness, tingling, and weakness. It often requires a surgery called a Carpal Tunnel Release, which fixes the small passage.
Workers Compensation is Available

If you were injured as a result of a repetitive motion that is part of your job, you are likely entitled to Workers Compensation benefits. The insurance company will be responsible for paying your medical expenses, and it will also be responsible for paying either total disability benefits if you cannot work at all or partial disability benefits if you have to scale your work back.

If you are left with a permanent injury that keeps you from going back to your previous job, you may also be entitled to vocational rehabilitation. This is job training that the insurance company pays for that can give you the opportunity for a new career.

You Need an Experienced Attorney

If you suffered one of these injuries, you should consult an attorney right away. Insurance companies often deny these claims. Since there was no single event that caused them, insurers often claim that the injuries are not work related, even in obvious cases.

At Marcotte Law Firm, we have handled these cases. We know how to work with your doctors so that they can explain how your injury happened. This is especially important because most doctors don’t understand that the way they word their medical records can make the difference in you getting your workers compensation benefits.

If you’ve developed an injury at work over time due to representative motions, call the Workers Compensation Attorneys at Marcotte Law Firm.
